Recently,
released itβs new feature, Notes, a feature that looks suspiciously like Twitter. This comes after a flurry of conservative media outrage over Elon Muskβs Twitter blocking Substack posts on his platform. It is all so BAD. This is literally the END OF THE WORLDβ¦ I thinkβ¦
So-called Chairman Musk now runs the totalitarian regime known as Twitter.
In response, the Substack-conservative-world has unleashed an outcry over the censorship this causes them. Their links are now not trusted on Twitter, meaning you sometimes get a warning from the browser.
There are multiple things that can cause this. One is Elon Muskβs evil-censorship. Another might be the fact that Substack has been using Twitterβs API a lot (an API is basically the way different applications can connect, when you see a βConnect your Twitter Accountβ , that is using an API).
Furthermore, the new Substack Notes looks suspiciously like an orange version of Twitter.
Is this a bad thing? No, not necessarily. Many other platforms (GETTR and Truth Social for example) also look a lot like Twitter. This is not a bad thing, but, in a way, a sort of compliment:
Captain Hook : But Peter threw me hand to a crocodile, who happened to be passing by. And that croc liked the taste of me hand so much, he's followed me ever since. From land to land, from sea to sea, he follows the ship - licking his lips for the rest of me.
Smee : Well, in a way, it is a sort of compliment.
Captain Hook : [bonking Smee on the head]Β Well, I want no such compliment.
Does it really matter?
What do we call it when two private companies try to improve their product and make more people come to the platform? Competition! What is wrong about that? I thought we were all capitalists here.
Substack has a great model, one that can be used by all different sorts of people. They thought that applying some of Twitterβs concepts would be beneficial for the company. If Twitter is any good it will keep on doing what it is doing. The same with Substack.
Elon Musk: The gangster
What is important to remember about the world is that very often, these guys that are in power are not really good. Elon Musk or Donald Trump or Jerome Powell do not need to be saints to make this world a better place. What is going to happen is that the evil in the world will implode on itself.
The City of London, or the World Economic Forum, or the Wall Street oligarchs, or the Democratic Party are all going to fall because none of them can trust each other. If Elon Musk is bad, he will fall as well.
But right now, Elon Musk has done good. He has bought Twitter and stopped a lot of the censorship going on there. He has made Twitter fun with the crazy stuff he does.
Who would you have run Twitter? Elon Musk or Yoel Roth (the creep who was part of Twitter inclusion stuff)? Is Twitter better now than it was then?
Who cares if Twitter is the ultimate free-speech platform? It was not before, so why would it be now? The difference now is that the targeting is becoming a little less one sided.
In conclusion
This was written on the fly since I was a little annoyed at the Substack vs. Twitter hysteria going on. I hope I have brought some more calm words to the table. Anyway, just sit back and enjoy the fun!
