Ah you mentioned it! Sultans of Swing...A song that I think has some of the greatest guitar work ever in Rock, yet a song I can barely, if at all, listen to. For, Sultans of Swing is probably one of the darkest, saddest songs in Rock and is about Death on a large scale. I plan to write an entire piece on just this piece of music on my Substack.

Fascinating take on the benefits of communal enjoyment of music and how important it is to do unimportant things with a community as fundamental as the family.

Happy St. John Fisher's feast day, by the way!

The Debussy thing is a joke, right?

Interesting observations about music. I definitely agree with you about listening as a family. However, you make it sound like you shouldn't listen to music alone. Is that what you are saying?

Saturday,

Well, if you think about it, is Debussy popular? Then its pop!

There is a difference between listening alone and listening in isolation. I listen to music (on headphones) all the time while doing yard work, sometimes while running. That is different from having β€œmy own music” that I listen to β€œon my own”. Listening alone is not bad, its just important to keep in mind that it can be isolating.

Does this answer your question?

Thanks,

Boniface (Sunday)
